Scandinavian Glass Collection?

I believe I have found an iittala "Festivo" candlestick by Timo Sarpaneva, a "Bone" vase by Aseda Glasbruk and a "Ultima Thule" Cocktail glass by Tapio Wirkkala?

Would you believe I dreamt about iittala glassware last night? (boxes of it)

Would you believe that I paid $6.00 AUD for this thrift bounty, in one op shop?

Am I still dreaming?

I have done a bit of a search so I hope I am right? 
Feel free to enlighten me but either way, aren't they sweet?

The hangers @ Modern Times are selling like hotcakes! Some Owls are up on the walls and receiving pleasing comments! :)

:: A wintery day

I was inspired by our wintery, cold, wet day here in Melbourne and
I found some vintage UK posters. 

I love the graphic style and bold use of colour!
I would fill every wall of our home, with these examples!

 In my home, Thomas the Tank Engine reins supreme! 
Train track winds around the furniture, books, DVDs etc but seriously, who doesn't love a train poster?

This one is a favourite!

:: Grete Jalk

Next in the series of Designers featured at the Pop Up Shop 

is Grete Jalk.

It's so nice to feature the work of a Woman Designer and the GT Chair is sublime! 

You want to mimic the curves of this chair with hand gestures, so feminine yet with the solidarity (solidness) of form that comes from Plywood.

 Grete Jalk was born in 1920. After completing her school leaving examination, she enrolled at Copenhagen University to study philosophy and law, but after completing the philosophy element she dropped out of university and instead took a year’s instruction in design at the Drawing and Applied Art School for Women.

In 1941, she served a three year apprenticeship with cabinetmaker Karen Margrethe Conradsen. In the final year of her apprenticeship she started at the College of Arts and Crafts Furniture School, graduating in 1946.

Subsequently, Grete Jalk studied at the Academy of Fine Art’s Furniture School under Kaare Klint and from 1950 until 1960 she taught at the College of Arts and Crafts Furniture School herself. In 1954 she got her own studio and in 1963 won a British furniture competition – the Daily Mail International Furniture competition with her moulded plywood chair – the GJ Chair.

That same year, the chair was bought by the Museum of Modern Art in New York where it has remained on permanent exhibition. Grete Jalk died in 2006, aged 86.

Love the Artworks

 I thought it might be nice to look at the Danish Designers currently featured at the Pop up shop, it's all good to admire the singular chair, sideboard or table but a greater appreciation comes from learning more!

Børge Mogensen (1914–1972) started his career as a cabinetmaker in 1934. In 1936 he went on to study at the Copenhagen School of Arts and Crafts under Professor Kaare Klint before entering the Royal Academy of Fine Arts from where he graduated as an architect in 1942.

He became head of design at FDB (the Danish co-op) in 1942 before establishing his own design office in 1950.

Sigh!!

Everything!!

 Functional is the word which best describes Børge Mogensen’s design. The majority of his furniture was designed with industrial production in mind and is characterized by strong and simple lines. His true genius is to be found in his almost scientific analysis of the functionality of a piece of furniture.

 If I had my choice I think this chair, the Shell Chair, 1949, made by Erhard Rasmussen from teak and beech would be a nice addition to Manor Ouch Flower!

:: Collections #5

West German Pottery and a pair of Gresley canisters, stamped TG GREEN & CO UK.

I have done a Google search on these canisters but nothing has come up, only the very popular Cornish Blue Striped ware. I have tried Etsy and pinterest-Nothing?

If you have any ideas or suggestions, let me know?

Yesterday was not the best day I had planned :(

I came out of "Field Trip"2012 brimming with ideas of a stunning career in the design/craft world! 

I had created a logo in Illustrator, planned a photo shoot and all this before I even left the building!

(it was a very inspiring event)

but when I arrived at the opening of the pop up shop, there were no Owls.......weeks of planning and making to a tight deadline, at the expense of family time, school commitments, housework etc

I thought this commission deserved my best efforts!

And.......nothing :(

I left quietly, had Nando's and went home to a hot cup of tea!

I'm sure they will go up eventually? and hopefully I can share some pic's then.

I am so grateful for all the well wishes and support, from you lovely ladies! 

With that in my heart and after much thinking (sulking) I have decided to "suck It up" regroup and focus on creating new designs, create a craft identity and see what I can do on my own.

Onwards and Upwards!!

:: Going on an adventure!

Tomorrow is going to be a BIG DAY!

Firstly I'm stepping out of my normal routine of bells, whiteboards and grumbling teenagers and attending Field Trip 2012- A creative conference in Melbourne!

Very excited to be immersed in all that designy goodness and be amongst 'Creatives'.

 THEN, it's off to Collingwood for drinks and nibbles at the opening of:
