:: I collect handmade jewellery

 I love jewellery!
My mum bought me my first ever ring from a street market in Melbourne, it is silver with a black onyx, very cool for a teenager.
There begun my love for handmade jewellery and I have amassed many great pieces over the years. My mum continues to add to my collection and now I also add to hers, it is something that we share.
I blame my maternal grandmother, she was a jewellery collector too!
There was a time, when I was interested in only silver and semi precious stones and wouldn't touch anything else but I'm less picky and open to new things!

(When I was 18 I knew everything, now I know nothing and learn along the way)

So I have started what a call the craft jewellery collection, that I wear everyday! (depending on outfit)
I'm an Art teacher, we are meant to inspire and lead the way!
Wizzer and Whyte
 Beaded jewellery made from semi Precious stones, really weighty and lovely to wear!
Emily Green
 Polymer clay beads, gorgeous colours on silver necklaces.
Jen Booth
 Stitched leather locket to hide your secrets in, sooo cute.
Goldenink
 Handmade, hand painted porcelain jewellery- my favourite!

And this is why!
Their work is so close to my own pottery aesthetic that I openly adore their work and secretly wish I had of thought of it.

LOOK!
My Hand carved porcelain lidded form and their pressed pattern work, we are twins!
My work is circa 2007, completed months before my son was born, missed that bandwagon!

If you are due to start another collection?
I highly recommend the craft jewellery collection, artworks as adornments!

:: Some handsome German's, with a bit of MC Brass.

The current West German Collection!
The more I love West German pottery the more I love West German pottery!

Today's finds are really feminine and decorative, look at the pattern on the green one?
The turquoise one is screaming for a lovely lush plant!
The variety is endless, this I did not know...sorry I'm gushing but I can't help it!
The West German's are all over my instagram account, sorry MMMC, I know I'm killing you here, but it is with kindness!

The NKONB
The brass collection has been slowly creeping in over the last year.
A few $'s here and a few $'s there, they are small and sit on top of my picture frames.

Do you have this problem?

Collecting without realising that you were collecting?

Till on one sunny morning the winter sun shines in, and highlights your recent hoardings!
Beware the small brass collection.

 One more sleep till the big giveaway announcement!

See you then!

:: 24/06/06 - 24/06/12

Lion -Lisa Larson.
 Today, Mr Ouch Flower and I celebrate 6 years of wedded bliss but it has been 12 years that we have shared our lives together!

Someone has been paying attention, because here is my gift.....soooo lovely!
Big smiles over here :)

We had a small wedding in a pub, on the Mornington Peninsula, no fuss..... just great canapes, live music and a huge bar bill, thanks Dad!
Literally, my Father and Father in law were stationed at the bar, out doing themselves with the Guinness and whiskey chasers!

I was determined to create everything for the wedding myself invites, pin holes, thankyou gifts, wedding jewellery, hair, makeup etc

This did not include the dress, which was lovingly made by a dear friend, using this vintage Vogue pattern.
We altered the front to a V and AUD $50.00 later, done!

I couldn't do flowers so I made this beaded bag instead and the brooch, to add to my belt.

 We were smiling with joy but it was cold and wet and @ 5pm when this pic was taken, very similar to today's weather!

PS You have gotta love a Scotsman in his kilt!

:: West German Pottery Collection

I just can't get enough of West German Pottery!
Here are my lastest recruits to the collection, the lovely mustard yellow with pressed patterns, a nice place for the glaze to pool with the slender handle and the blue ombre with raised geometric patterns.

 I purchased them from an etsy store called Eclectivist
Kasia was lovely to deal with and she packaged them well and it was a really great transaction, I warn you though, if you click on the link you might be lighter in the pocket? or a least add her shop to your favourites, remember it's Christmas in July soon!
(note to those of you in the northern hemisphere, Christmas in July, is an Aussie thing, we have the traditional Christmas dinner in our winter because December time can be just too hot!)

 The lovely Dana from Mid2Mod awarded me with an award!
I'm very pleased and touched that she thought of me amongst her choices

 Recipients of the award are asked to tell seven things about themselves, so here goes!

1- I was born in England in 1975, to an English Father and an Anglo Indian Mother, I married a Scotsman and made an Australian!

2- I wear a ring on my thumb and have done since my early twenties, I have not taken it off and I think I never will.

3- I studied Pottery at University and in my honours year, one of my works was bought by Dame Elizabeth Murdoch, a great philanthropist for the Arts.

4- I heart Sting big time! Everything he does is magic!

5- At school, I was happiest in the Art room or the library.

6- I married in a green dress, made from a Vogue pattern by a dear friend.

7-  I draw everyday.

I now pass on this lovely award to:

Donna @ Hung Up On Retro
(A lovely friend and you'll love her Freaky Friday Posts)

Kylie @ Lucy Violet Vintage
(She's on a blog holiday just now but I just have to share her part of the world with you)

(A Graphic Designer with her finger on the pulse, love her work!)

Kylie @ Paravent
(A Textile Designer who screen prints beautiful work and uses neon pink!)

Tes @ Milkveins
(A sweetie)

Raynor @ The Shy Lion
(A witty Lad, whose blog has loads for lovely knitted/crochet goodness!)

(Maker of Odds&Ends and a crafting mentor for me)

I hope you enjoy visiting their blogs!

:: Collections #6

Scandinavian Glass Collection?

I believe I have found an iittala "Festivo" candlestick by Timo Sarpaneva, a "Bone" vase by Aseda Glasbruk and a "Ultima Thule" Cocktail glass by Tapio Wirkkala?

Would you believe I dreamt about iittala glassware last night? (boxes of it)
Would you believe that I paid $6.00 AUD for this thrift bounty, in one op shop?
Am I still dreaming?

I have done a bit of a search so I hope I am right?
Feel free to enlighten me but either way, aren't they sweet?
Happy thrifting too you!

On a side note!
The hangers @ Modern Times are selling like hotcakes! Some Owls are up on the walls and receiving pleasing comments! :)

Here is what I'm playing with at the moment!

What do you think?
A little owl, with a sweet leather owl face.

:: Collections #5

West German Pottery and a pair of Gresley canisters, stamped TG GREEN & CO UK.

I have done a Google search on these canisters but nothing has come up, only the very popular Cornish Blue Striped ware. I have tried Etsy and pinterest-Nothing?
If you have any ideas or suggestions, let me know?

Yesterday was not the best day I had planned :(

I came out of "Field Trip"2012 brimming with ideas of a stunning career in the design/craft world!
I had created a logo in Illustrator, planned a photo shoot and all this before I even left the building!
(it was a very inspiring event)

but when I arrived at the opening of the pop up shop, there were no Owls.......weeks of planning and making to a tight deadline, at the expense of family time, school commitments, housework etc
I thought this commission deserved my best efforts!
And.......nothing :(
I left quietly, had Nando's and went home to a hot cup of tea!

I'm sure they will go up eventually? and hopefully I can share some pic's then.

I am so grateful for all the well wishes and support, from you lovely ladies!
With that in my heart and after much thinking (sulking) I have decided to "suck It up" regroup and focus on creating new designs, create a craft identity and see what I can do on my own.

Onwards and Upwards!!

:: Collections #4

My lastest finds, Midwinter Stylecraft (UK) bowl (fashion shape) and a cake stand.

I picked up the bowl from a garage sale and the cake stand via Etsy, all the way from Canada.
It took 3 months!

 I'm not usually big on florals but this pattern has a bit of a rock in roll edge, with the fine black crisscross pattern behind the roses.
The rose is a robust rose too not a soft romantic whimsical type...I do like a bit of an edge!
And I'm a sucker for Midwinter!

I was overjoyed to find this beauty at the op shop for $3.00.
I have admired Flensted Mobiles for a while now and these swallows retail for AUD $30.00.
I'm very pleased!
On another note, I'm now ready to fill my shop with goodies.
 I will work feverishly to create some new wares.
A special thanks to those who have visited my shop only to be dissappointed,
I'm so very sorry and stupidly thought no one would visit,
(not very bright)so off I go to do some knotting!

:: Collections # 3

I spied these beauties and pounced!
I'm amazed how in a seconds shop, it can be busy with people and yet these finds are still up for the taking!

I'm loving my new sweet West German piece to add to my collection, now boasting three!

I'm hoping this antler was ethically found?
I hope to draw it some day!
Honey Pot? or Maple Syrup? I love the Art Deco lines.
Why aren't our daily kitchen wares today, been given this much thought to form and function?

I suppose that's our collective reason to revere the pasts design offerings because we will no longer be fooled by shoddy design, manufacture and material use!

I love Vintage/Retro/Mid Century!

:: Collections #2

 I knew once I styled my blue ceramic and glass wares together in collection #1, I'd need to rearrange what was left....here are pic's of my efforts

I always feel the house is in harmony once everything has its place. Once you change something or add a new addition, this reshuffling, rearranging and maybe a culling....must occur again and again!

:P

Ps Will Mr ouchflower notice?...mmmm

:: collections

I love to collect...but I'm an eclectic collector!

If it's retro ceramics then I'm in.
I prefer to have one of each of the makers and occasionally I'll seek similar designs but often one piece is enough.

Well I do have a few Arabia pieces.... but the apple design is my favourite!
One West German , one Soholm etc

My love of ceramics lead me to completing a B.A in Craft,
pictured are my most recent work.
Motherhood has put clay on hold, hence the macrame fascination.

Wheel thrown and hand built, porcelain ware.

 Oh and who doesn't like a bit of Midwinter
and a Jesse Tait clock, to keep the pulse racing.

Motherload

This mornings venture to a retro fair in our local town, has me thinking I have achieved the mother load!
The fair was jam packed with retro/vintage enthusiasts seeking that special item!

Collectors are a bred unto their own, many were flicking desperately through albums of cards, one older gentleman I spied had chanced upon a discreet album of early 1900's girly pictures!
There were loads of childrens toys and collectable teddies and vintage tea cups a plenty.
Me.... I scanned for anything ceramic or glass.

The Danish Pottery, Holmegaard vase and a Jesse Tait plate clock (not featured) I bought from one stall.
If I had an endless budget, I would of come home with their Bitossi, iittala, Portmeirion, Genie lamps, West German Lava, Czech glassware and much more......

I'm feeling pretty smug!
