Lady Grey

I was finally able to recover the Mama chair!

It was a great shame to have to say goodbye to the lovely 50-60's floral but this wing back Parker armchair needed a new frock!

I flipped through countless fabric books, I wanted to honour the mustard colour of the original fabric but to have the whole chair in mustard may have been too much?
so I decided upon the grey with the mustard detail!
I love grey and yellow together....and I hope I don't tire of it?

She sit's nicely amongst the teak and leather furniture also in the room, a bit of sitting will soften the newly upholstered feel but I hope the look will be timeless?

Do you have a Mama chair?

Here is Mr Ouch's chair and Lady Turquoise, my other upholstered chair ...if your into chairs!

I taught myself a new macrame knot!.....the joys of goggle!
It's called the Chinese crown knot.

I see a macrame necklace idea brewing...what do you think?
I placed a TEAK, yes TEAK bead on for effect.
I would make a nice porcelain bead for it....is this idea worth persuing?

It would be a very bold piece to wear....but hopefully elegant too?
I use some hand dyed twine, it would take 12m of it to make a decent length necklace, so it would take commitment!
Plus it's time comsuming too!  ....but so lovely to hold too!
If you have any opinions?
...feel free to express!

Yes a bought a 70's hairy scary macrame just for the beads, they are taken from the twine, washed and danish oiled for me to gaze at and feel :)

:: Goings On

Hello!
As usual the arrival of the jolly bearded man has sent us into a frenzy of activity....me I did a mad dash stitching stint last night because I had to finish my softie contribution to the 'Softie for Mirabel'

I have cut it pretty fine, time wise but here he is, loads of character with a cheeky grin!
He's resting on my new thrifted plate, love Figjo!

I have to quickly make another one though, as the boy wasn't best pleased when he realised it was not for him :(

I found three shell hangers at our local market.....so lovely in my book!
Do you like shell hangers or do you roll your eyes and tut, like Mr Ouch did?

Our Xmas tree, wonky but lovely, I've been meaning to straighten it but it has a certain charm?

The pebbles and shells around the base were the boy's idea, stop people from bumping into it mummy!
I love a four year olds thinking!

A new macramé idea!
Turning the hanger on it's head!
Tassel up rather than down!

The hanger will accommodate any size pot within reason, have a look at it with a small white plant pot below!

More vintage beads!

With the tassel up top, it could be called a 'Tassel Top' hanger or a "Ponytail hanger, what do you think?
Do you like it?
Glass or ceramic pot, which look do you like?

Nice to buy a white pot from a chain store and not see 'made in china'!

and these necklaces are in the shop if your struck on what to buy yourself for Xmas! :)

I wish you well in your Chrissie preparations, I'm on school countdown, 3 more days to go!

:: Ouch Beads & Typewriters

I have been experimenting and playing with clay...with the view to coming up with some new ceramic ideas to pursue in 2013!

I'm very lucky to have finally earnt my long service leave, 10 years of teaching service gets me, a terms holiday...Woo Hoo you can hear me say!

So how about the blossom vase above?
I have used a lovely black glaze within and the celedon over the simple carved surface.
It's currently hanging with some black dyed twine, but that could change?
It was a pleasure to make...is it a winner?

New beads from the kiln!
I have looked into some ways to make necklaces, the turquoise leather thong, black silk thread and silver silk knitted cord.
All worth a strong considerations for 2013...What are your thoughts??

Do you like the black ouch bead? I was trying out a gemstone cut!

On a side note, we went to the local market today! We have my lovely BIL out from the UK, with his extra lovely Fiancee...so we went to show them the sights!
Look what I found!
Originally $30, then another customer asked for best price....$25. I walked away...did an eBay search on the name, made sure I confirmed my suspicions, that it was indeed a lovely object.

I came back to the stall and the gentleman said, "you interested in the typewriter, love"?...urm Yes (smile) "have it for $15" he said......OK thanks!!

It's heavy love!...no worries I have a husband :)  ........LOL you found a use for him then LOL !!

Olivetti Studio 44

I also found some Macrame beads....2013 will be the time to put them into good use!

:: Lapid Love

My Latest find........ Lapid, Israel.
There hand painted and have a simple modernist aesthetic.

It's a lovely indigo blue under glaze, on a creamy mottled clay body.

Something strange is going on with my succulent....waving

It's been painted by STEEF, imagine him or her sitting in the heat, brush in hand?

The Master on all things worth knowing...
Ray from Retro Pottery Net has a number of posts with insightful info and lots of eye candy images, if you'd like to know more! :)
Don't forget to say hello!

And if your reading this Ray......... was $13.00 a bargain? :)

I came across this enamel sign at a car boot sale, the colours are amazing, as is the cordial may I add!

I'm not usually into signs but who could resist!
It's an approved reprint by Dodo Designs, Kent, UK.
(where I was hatched, as my mother tells me... often!)

:: Tupperware, Thrift finds, ...turning 37.

When you get to a certain age, people start inviting you to Tupperware parties, sadly I think I was the presenters nightmare as I didn't buy anything and regaled everyone with how good the retro stuff is and how cheap too!
This set was $10, I gave them to Mr Ouch for his tea's, flour (he bakes our bread) and muesli!

I know I've been busy with the macrame but I'm never to busy to catch up with Donna for a thrift session!
These were $3 each!

My Mum bought me this casserole dish for my birthday, I think it's by J&G Meakin, Habitat pattern C 1953. In my parents early marriage they had a set of plates with this pattern , which I still have. I'm very fond of this piece.

I couldn't resist this skillet, Turi Design called Daisy, Norway.

A Teak or black wood bowl?.....Now the entrance table has some semblance of order!

You get to a certain age where getting new house plants is the top of your birthday list, thanks Dad!
I can't wait to go pot shopping!!

This is what I bought for myself!
A pair of (Australian MC)Tessa Ottomans, lovely black leather, excellent knick!
Teak or Blackwood?

And It wouldn't be a post without macramé, new tri-colour piece, reminds me of Neapolitan ice cream.....yum!

I found a big bag of retro macrame beads!
So beads and macrame it is!

Being 37 is not so bad, three years on the good side of forty they say but I'm looking forward to what's ahead!

:: Art Glass Vignette

My Art glass collection is growing, I display them amongst my jewellery boxes at the end of my bed.
They are so pretty and girly...in fact this is the most girly I get!

I picked up the peonies on the way home from work, I've taken to awarding myself regularly with flowers after the working week, rather than too much wine.

My bed spread was my maternal grandmothers, I didn't know her well but she collected many nice things that I have been fortunate to have acquired. I think, I might of acquired my taste for collecting from her. More of that for another day!

I'm sharing this with Tania on tomorrow's Scandi Coast "Saturday Style" post, but I'm early because tomorrow is the Retro Cook off at Hung up on Retro and Lucy Violet Vintage....and I've decided to be in two places at once!

Happy weekend!

Since our Crafty Collab share, I have met some new friends in blogland and I'm so pleased your here, your very welcome!

:: Denby Love

I grew up with Denby, these were my Parents, most likely, wedding gifts.
You have to love the simplicity of the Chevron pattern.

We ate and drink from the Denby Potter's Wheel Rust Red set, but sadly this set no longer exists in our family :(
I think it might need a revival though?

Via

In 2002, I returned from the UK with a Scotsman and this tea set!

Since then I have sort more Denby for my collection because the love for it continues.

The Denby Kismet Pattern was manufactured in England between 1969 and 1981.
