:: A sweet macrame owl

 My musings into macrame continue...

I have been working on my own design of this iconic macrame icon.

I wanted to create a small subtle version, using a greater range of knotwork that I have not used previously.
It has been an arduous process, lots of unpicking of my knots and many trials, on gauging length of twine, size and overall aesthetic appeal!
So far I'm pleased but now want to inject more colour into the knotwork, to create visual contrast.

I tried using wooden beads for eyes but they made the owl too beady...a little unnerving (The Mona Lisa effect)

An owl in their natural environment!

The knotwork has created a 3D effect.

Detail shot featuring the yellow string feet.

If you're inclined to offer any advice or feedback,
I would greatly appreciate it!

  2. VERY cool owl! I love it. I'm afraid I have no advice as I can barely tie my shoelace, let alone rig up something this good! It's great, and yes - I want one. Starting pricing these babies up for me please!

  3. Ditto what Donna says Pippa.
    I'm glad you ditched the wooden beads, I like it as is, pure and simple, an owl stripped bare.

  7. This brings back memories to old school days when I made a hanging basket with a nun called Sister Coska. I gave it to my mother and she loved it!

  8. Hey Donna...you're very talented and it's great to see old faves like macrame emerge once again! I'm also loving that London Underground picture that's next to the owl. Would it be rude to ask where you got it from? Keep blogging as you have so many interesting good ies to share! H :)

  9. Hi, my mum brought it back from the UK, it's part of a series, spring, summer, autumn and winter. The transport museum does sell online, I do love a travel poster!
