Arabia Finland sugar bowl+Cacti= Very cute

I'm soooo in love with my new cactus! This cutey came about when I spotted Andrea's work
Her label is Odds&endS, she beautifully crafts these knitted cuties and sells online and at stockists around Melbourne, Australia.

Her latest range of cacti live in thrifted vintage ceramics and that got me thinking.....I wonder if she could put my $2.00 thrift find Arabia pot to good use?

I introduced myself.....
We both agree it was a match made in heaven.

Andrea has also posted about our joint venture and my recent craft foray of macrame,on her blog remember to notice, do have a peek, stay a while! Maybe even become a follower!

It was great meeting Andrea and her adorable son and share our joint love of making, thrifting and vintage/retro goodness!

Florence Broadhurst

In honour of Australia Day, I thought a look at Florence was in order!

Florance was years ahead of her time, the complex, eccentric and talented Florence Broadhurst was born in rural Queensland, Australia in 1899.  By the time of her death in 1977 Broadhurst had lived and worked in Australia, Asia, and England; performed professionally on stage; been befriended by royalty; exhibited her paintings; and started an internationally successful wallpaper company whose success was based upon her own designs.

Today Signature Prints are licensed to sell her prints.

Serious use of colour and repetition.
Great read, I can lend you mine!

Soon Kate Spade will be releasing a range inspired by our Florence, can't wait for that!

Enjoy!!

:: I need retail therapy

I love a good shopping expedition, especially when scouting out new places that sell old stuff, a bit of vintage, mid century and retro goodnesss!
So when I chanced upon this website via FB, I had to share :)

It's called Vintage Shops Australia, a directory to numerous therapy sites all over Australia!

The usual shops are listed but I have found many more to induce a country road trip!
But in my suburb is The Old Classic Motorcycle Warehousespecialising in vintage UK road bikes!

You can subscribe to their newsletter or friend up on FB.

180m of heavy cotton twine and 20 hrs later........

Before

Detail of original shade

60 strands of twine, each 3m long, sit on the circumference of the shade.

nearly finished

Making a knot

After

Detail shot
I have had, loads of fun completing this project, time consuming but the repetitive nature of knotting is very soothing, I highly recommend it!

There's a fine line between 70's kitsch and contemporary macrame cool, I hope I have created the latter?
I think the spray painted neon yellow shade frame helps this?
Next task is to tackle, is the Owl. Inspired by the pic below, a thrift find from Savers, those eyes, get me every time!

Thanks for looking xx
Latest thrift find and inspiration for next macrame project.

My Colourful Heart...

I find my creativity needs many outlets and I tend to work in different art forms, at different times and they come in cycles.
Now I feel an itch in my fingers, an idea forming in my mind of what to draw next....
Posted below are pics of my last drawing adventure, now framed, hanging in my dining room.
This was created in early 2011, hence the itching, tingling and strong compulsion to see what new images I can create  now.
I used ink and fine liner and built the image up slowly, it wasn't planned just evolved.
Are you a doodler? Lover of pattern and colour?
