Arabia
So you know of my love for Arabia Finland pottery, and many of you share this!
So you'll agree that this example is indeed very special...another offering from eBay, 1 bid win!
Maybe I was the only one prepared to pay the price?($100)
but look at it!
It's porcelain, it's heavy and pure white, stoneware is never this white, always yellowish.
The flat matt black glaze is thick and smooth.
The sunflower and horse design have been scratched into the glaze called scraffito.
I think it's about 50's or 60's at least?
I think it is the epitome of Scandinavian design, the contrast of black and white, they do so well!
I would like redecorate my dining room in black and white, pure scandi but I love colour....so much!.... so maybe a compromise then?
I will keep you posted on that....I'm working on an idea! :)
But today I am prepping for my first macramé class!
I'm very excited if not a bit nervous....people laugh at me when I say that! ....."your a teacher" etc......I say "I teach teenagers and they have to come to my classroom...some willingly!" ;)
I will get there!
I love Photoshop!
Happy weekend to you!

Sharing of at Max's today! love an Op Shop Show Off!...hope eBay counts?

:: An Arabia Saga
SOB! |
I know..........
My heart sank when I turned around to see my beloved plate fall to the ground and shatter.
I had stupidly stuck the plate on the wall with an adhesive hook (dam you sticky hook!)
The packet destruction's said it would hold and I wanted to respect my husbands sensitivity to yet another hole in our walls!
Husband was sympathetic and suggested I glue it back together, no one would know!
I would know, I can't do that I said...so off the eBay to look for another.
SCORN! |
This is what arrived, advertised as a plate but it's a bowl?
With extensive crazing, not noted in the description.
Yet again my heart sank,
my plate vanity was getting the best of me.
Are you a crazing snob? Do you see it as a fault and reconsider any purchase, for that reason?
I was taught at Uni that crazing is a glaze fault, so it pitting. Any work I created, that had theses faults were considered seconds and were relegated to the garden as ornaments.
I had a sincere correspondence with the eBay seller, about her description, of lack off etc but cost wise it wasn't possible to return the bowl...I was already out of pocket.
As time has passed I have come to love my bowl for all her faults and mine!
Every saga has a happy ending.....I came home last night from teaching TAFE and my heart leapt!
Isn't see a beauty?
With a nail in the wall, she has pride of place in the kitchen!
All 24cm of her!
PURE DELIGHT! |

Arabia Finland sugar bowl+Cacti= Very cute
I'm soooo in love with my new cactus! This cutey came about when I spotted Andrea's work
Her label is Odds&endS, she beautifully crafts these knitted cuties and sells online and at stockists around Melbourne, Australia.
Her latest range of cacti live in thrifted vintage ceramics and that got me thinking.....I wonder if she could put my $2.00 thrift find Arabia pot to good use?
I introduced myself.....
We both agree it was a match made in heaven.
Andrea has also posted about our joint venture and my recent craft foray of macrame,on her blog remember to notice, do have a peek, stay a while! Maybe even become a follower!
It was great meeting Andrea and her adorable son and share our joint love of making, thrifting and vintage/retro goodness!
Pippa.
