A bit of thrift!

Hello 70's latch hook from ebay!
Come to my home and hang out on the blue wall!
Even Mr Ouch said you were a bit of alright!

I love lidded forms and I really enjoyed making them back in the day too.
This little piece is Scandinavian I'm told?
Terracotta, glazed white with a tin oxide brush work?
Very sweet and very well made.
I can't recognise the makers mark, let me know if you can?

My Toy collection is growing!
Got a thing for Vikings! CHARGE!!!!
They make me smile :)

Got a thing for modernist jewellery at the moment and have amassed a collection, which I hope to post about soon. Very easy to sneak in the house ;)

The necklace in the centre is new, it looks like a Pentti Sarpaneva but it doesn't have the same link to the necklace as my others have but hey I loved it and figured it needed a home!

I'm on maternity countdown #35weeks, come on loveheart lets meet??

Oh Mother A Mouly!

Today's best thrift find is this print by
French Artist Marcel Mouly.
Apparently he hung out with Picasso...good enough for me!
Really it's the colour that made me charge at it in the second dealers garage. Then i saw it was dated 1959 and well it hit the modernist button nicely!

The I couldn't resist the Tapio Wirkkala and the pretty red West German!

Marcel Mouly

Ugly aren't they?.....but endearing too on closer inspection

Glit Icelandic Pottery
That's real lava on the sides of the pots...now that's cool!

Cut out clay pattern, so seventies!

Something different, an eighties pop clock, real plastic and glass. Reminds me of Memphis and you know how I love Memphis!
I might hang this beauty in my classroom and admire it everyday!

...it won't get nicked the kids are too frightened of me for that!!! BAH!!

Hope your having happy, great weekend!

Viking raids.... and I bought Don home to meet the family,

Don Freedman
I have been dreaming about these wall hangings,
I scour etsy and think $300, not that much?
Never going to get one in Australia....blah blah blah!
Then on my first thrift outing all term to the Waverly Bazaar!
Ta da! all for $15.00!!!!!!!

I thrift to relax, I thrift for silence too, the joy of not talking for hours on end, just looking, looking and the BAM you spot your hearts desire.
I sometimes wonder what an introvert is doing in a teaching job, but then I do enjoy bossing folk about and teenagers are great for that!
LOL I mean bossing in a good way :)

Hello Danish Viking, he came home too.
To guard 'the Don' from further pillaging!

Blue, Brown and Green!
My interior colour choices at the moment!
How did that happen?

Another Holmegaard carafe to add to my collection, more Viking motifs!

and making some simpler macramé to soothe my busy days!

Hope your well and I look forward to visiting you all over these holidays, I hope you'll excuse my tardiness!

Hornsea, Lapid, Iittala & More!

My only good place to thrift at the minute is closing down and I fear my iittala run will be over!
......and chances of coming across another Lapid let alone blue Hornsea will be over!
At least at decent prices anyway!

I frequently rush to Savers after school on Friday for a bit of me time, a chance to unwind before returning home for homemade pizza's.
Oh well :(

Not sure of the maker of this dish (mark 2525) probably Japanese?
.... but I love the mustard coloured glaze and slip decoration.

I think Lapid pottery is unique and as lovely as West German Pottery, one more and I have a collection on my hands :)

I also picked up this nice bed spread too, teal and gold my new favourite colour combination!

I was being silly and had been playing along with #7vignettes on instagram, this is my version of the topic 'pile'.

I had a stall at another local market this weekend, it was OK, bit slow so I made this hanger!
It will go in the shop as a made to order hanger, still not bored of chartreuse or the 'Sling' design!

Speaking of markets, I was asked by a punter if my tassels were for 'self flagellation'?
I think my jaw dropped and mumbled the response they are decorative :(

Joy of joys!

Happy week ahead to you!

Some Tassels, some thrift and $$!

It has been really nice this week making and filling orders.
The above garland is heading off to the U.S and the tassel twins are heading off to Sydney!
I think the arabian-blue and chartreuse are a great fit!
I like making to peoples tastes, then they get what they'd like and I get to experiment with my colour palette and make tassels....not bored yet of making tassels!

This morning I floated an idea on insta for a dream catcher/tassel thingy. I popped up a pic pre-dyed and kindly folk offered their support and liked the image, that's what you do on instagram 'like it' if you like it or move on?

One follower expressed their 'love' for the new idea but that I was way too expensive.
I was fortunate that many of my insta pal were able to express eloquently, the reasonings behind handmade etc and money!

So am I too expensive?... well, interestingly Mr Ouch did the math, I don't do numbers but here's tassel pricing 101 in a nut shell!

1 x batch of twine = $7.00
Dye = $4.00

To cut, bind, dye and fluff up a single tassel takes one hour and 20 mins. Based on minimum wage of $19.00 an hour, I "pay" Mr Ouch $6.00 for his part in tassel making, whilst "paying" myself $19.00 for my part in designing, creating, measuring, cutting, assembling, dying and putting the finishing touches to the tassel.

So, that's $11 for materials, $6 to Mr Ouch, $19 to myself as my wage, which equals $36. Wow, $4 profit...

Hang on, they have to be packed and posted too...

That's tissue paper, fancy sticky tape, business card, hand written thank you letter and a healthy dose of ouch-goodness. Plus the postage of $6.95.

So I'm actually more than $2.95 out of pocket! How'd that happen? Who's idea was it to make these stupid tassels anyway? You've convinced me, prices are going up. Right NOW!

Not really, because I love doing this and seeing my work make other people happy.
I want tassels to be affordable and accessible to the design conscious, savvy shopper such as myself who has loads of class but on a budget!
That's why I thrift and why I support the handmade community.

.....And whilst I won't be buying a new BMW with the proceeds (although I may have 2 sell the 2 Ferrari's to pay for the postage deficit, or employ a friendly pigeon or 3), there's a reason that handmade costs a bit more than machine-made in an anonymous factory in South East Asia.

 Here's some thrift!

Tassel & Thrift

Blue George

Here is the NEW look Tassel Garland, less paper tissue garland more wall art?........I hope?

Now with nine slim tassels and an optional extra of 10 large natural wooden beads.
This one is dyed in the royal blue, so aptly named.

Some new tassel makers are about.... so I will be doing some serious development and refining of my ideas, to ensure some autonomy.

I want to continue with tassels, so I feel I must come up with a new approach.
I hope you won't mind this place becoming a bit of a tassel fest for a while?

These options will be in the shop soon.

Dip dyed Rapunzel with a macramé knot.

Dip dyed tassel with a Macramé knot.

My latest finds, a Bitossi lamp and Laurids Lonborg Teak Owl.
Check out this pinterest board for more

Both were bargains so I'm a happy camper! The owl has lost his eyes but I think I will fix that with some black seed beads.

The lamp needs a lovely new shade...I'm looking forward to making that.
On the home front, Ouch boy is moving into the big boy's room...and I'm hoping his toys will follow him! ;0

Back to pinterest, one of my boards has over 11,000 followers!
Crazy Mid Century lovers!
